What is sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry or sleep dentistry is the state-of-the-art comprehensive approach in dentistry that allows even the most intensive dental procedures to be performed in the minimum number of appointments. At Dr. Zak North Park Dental Care, we administer three types of sedation:
IV Sedation in Dentistry
What is IV Sedation?
Intravenous sedation involves providing pain relief during painful procedures. Sedatives are injected through as IV, causing drowsiness. You are then blissfully unaware of pain generated by the procedure or surgery. When you awake, you feel fully rested and without any painful recollections of the procedure. IV sedation provides the ultimate comfort during any dental treatment and is much more effective at eliminating pain and discomfort than pill or gas sedation. Dr. Zak North Park Dental Care is among less than 1% of California dentists that are licensed to perform IV sedation and have a successful and proven track record of IV sedation that spans over two decades.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) Sedation in Dentistry
What is Nitrous Oxide?
At Dr. Zak North Park Dental Care, we have found that inhalation of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation is the most widely used dental sedation technique. The patient inhales a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen through a nasal mask, which causes a euphoric effect, eliminates pain and relaxes the patient.
Oral Sedation in Dentistry
What exactly is Oral Sedation?
Oral sedation is another method that Dr. Zak North Park Dental Care uses, and it is favorable because of how easy it is to administer. The patient is given a sedative pill to take by the mouth the night before the appointment and/or several hours before the visit. At the appointment time, the patient is relaxed and remains calm and anxiety-free throughout the procedure. Because you will already be under sedation in route to the appointment, someone else must drive you to and from the dental office to be safe.
